As a co-founder of first the Canadian Mortgage-Backed Securities business and then the Canadian Asset-Backed Securities markets, Ian created and ran the dominate banking and trading securitization teams in what is now a greater than $100 billion market. Prior to his retirement in 1999 as Managing Director & Global Head of Securitization and Structured Finance at Nesbitt Burns, he had also established an equal size operation in the United States and one of the world’s few successful Structured Investment Vehicles in London, U.K. In addition, the Bank of Montreal had Ian sit on both their Capital Management as well as their Asset Liability Committees. Since then Ian co-founded and is now Chairman of CNQ, Canada’s newest stock exchange. Since 1996 Ian has been a Director of the Robarts Research Institute where he also serves as Chairman of their Business Development Committee and as such oversees their various commercialization initiatives. Ian is also a Director of the Toronto International Film Festival Group and sits on their Finance Committee. As well, he is a Founding Director of the National Angel Organization and is Chairman of their Governance Committee.
